Un muntatge detallista, ambientat als anys 30 del segle XX, de Jonathan Miller serveix bé aquesta obra mestra de Puccini, mentre que el repartiment i la direcció musical són de notable homogeneïtat, destacant el poètic Rodolfo de Matthew Polenzani.
