Excellent … with a little more disruption?

CRÍTiCA: A.K.A. (Also Known As)
Featuring a brilliant, energetic performance by Albert Salazar, this entertaining, if essentially safe, coming-of-age play by Daniel J. Meyer explores themes such as racism, class and identity from an accessible standpoint.
Born in Sala Flyhard, the success of the piece, notably among young people of both genders – and their parents – is great. It tells the story of a 15/16-year-old victim Carlos, who meets upper class girl, Claudia, on Tinder, only to be seduced by her and accused of a crime by her meddling cousin Sylvia. A crime he did not commit. Or did he? Well, no.
Aside from the characterisation and its ability to make visual the tech world, one of the strengths of the piece lies in its sensitive portrayal of the lead; a young man capable of falling in love, being manipulated, and intimidated by his elders and the state.
But I would like to have seen a little more development from the point of view of Claudia, another victim in the piece. As it is, she remains, rather problematically, the predator in the most traditional of senses: temptress, ghoster… How this will approach the complicated relationship between the genders in an age defined by #MeToo is difficult to see.
